First Movie

I was still too sore from Monday's aerobics class (I don't know what she had us doing, but my calves must have gotten a serious workout) to go to the rec center today, so Evan and I decided to do something different. We went on a date to the movies.

Our local theater hosts free kids movies in the summer (fyi - pretty much every theater does something like this,) and I thought that might be a fun way to practice theater etiquette. There's no way we're ready to pay for him to be dragged out early from go to a movie yet, but free I can handle.

I knew he'd love the gigantic screen-o-cartoons, but it was the sitting still part I was concerned about. In a professional capacity, I've been to these free movie things before, so I knew they were pretty laid back, but it's not like I could let him run up and down the aisles. Before we got out of the car we talked about the do's and don'ts for movie theaters, how we would have to leave if he got too many warnings, and most importantly the severe consequences that would ensue if I had to drag him out kicking and screaming.

I didn't have high expectations, but Evan did a superb job. We had snacks, so that helped, but he sat in his seat and watched the movie very appropriately for almost an hour. As it got closer to the hour mark, he started to get antsy. As I was about to give him his third warning, I asked him if he was ready to go, and he said yes, so we did. He took my hand and we walked out of the theater just like we'd walked in, with no screaming. He did, however, throw a minor fit when we passed the arcade, but there was no one around to see that one - so, you know,"if a tree falls in the woods...."

That's how we did our first movie. You definitely don't mind leaving early when you don't have to pay for it! Glad he did well. :-)
