Yesterday, I officially accepted a part-time position with Cummins Behavioral Health and resigned my job of 6+ years with Midtown. I will be working 3 days/week in a Wayne Township elementary school right around the corner from where we live now. I won't be working any school holidays including summer, which I love! And only one of the three days is a "billable" day, meaning a LOT less paperwork!! Things are very different outside of the IPS and not-for-profit world. For instance, both the school and agency called me to get sizes for corresponding t-shirts - but I don't have to pay for either one! This may sound minor, but all of you social workers get the significance! And this is a cool perk - the agency sends a courier to my school to pick up any paperwork I might have to turn in...you won't see that in not-for-profit!
I had a pretty small caseload when I left for the summer and most of them were new clients, but I did feel it necessary to call one client to tell her I was leaving...it was strange knowing that I wouldn't be there to see her through her last year of middle school, but she's been one of my favorites and I know she'll do great and be in capable hands!
I'm so excited to be home more with Evan. This summer has shown me that I could probably do this full-time, but three days/wk will be a nice transition. We'll see where things stand next May...
