Every Monday I go to a new moms' group lead by a pediatric nurse and I love being able to ask her questions. My question today was, "What do we do when our 8 month old throws a temper tantrum?" This morning I was getting him dressed but he was much more interested in crawling around, so to show his displeasure he tried to head-butt me.
What? Perfect, cute little Evan? Yes!
If he can't get what he wants or you stop him from doing something he's invested in, you're going to hear about it. I read a lot about toddlers and how to respond to their tantrums, but he's only 8 mos old--what do we do with him? This was her response: Finish whatever you're trying to do as quickly as you can, but don't give the tantrum behavior any attention, and distract him if possible. She also said it's ok to sit him on the floor and walk away (with safety in mind) while he throws his fit.
So, basically we can treat his tantrums the same way we would a toddler's. I needed to hear that! I was very hung up on him still being a baby, but I guess for most purposes he's past that point now.
You're all saying, "uh, yeah, have you seen your child lately!"

Yeah, it sound like you have a toddler ;) Welcome to the world of temper tantrums!
I have missed going to group the last two weeks. Can't wait to go next week. Are you still going to be able to go once you start working again?
