Our nesting neighbors

Don't call PETA, but we've got a serious case of cohabitation going on in our dryer vent that we're about to rectify.

A few times per day we hear lots of scratching along one of our living room walls, and one day we walked outside just in time to see a big old bird flying out of our dryer vent. An unwelcome family of birds has gone and made themselves very comfortable in there.

At first I didn't think it was that big of a deal and figured we'd wait until the nest was empty to fix the problem. But, Jeff did all this research, and apparently having a blocked dryer vent is a serious fire hazard. Now, all I can think about is our house catching on fire. I'm all for animal rights and I really hate the idea of disrupting their nest, but I don't very much enjoy the thought of my new house burning down with my loved ones and belongings inside.

We've scheduled someone to come out on Monday to evict our squatters, and even though I know it's necessary, I still feel pretty bad. So, I've decided to do that thing I do when I watch a movie with a super sad ending, or when I hear what's in bologna, or when I read about the labor conditions of the chicken I had for dinner last night - I'll turn a blind eye and pretend it never happened.

it's probably for the best. i mean, come on, a dryer vent, what kind of nest is that? all of their bird friends and family members probably make fun of them for it....like, "come on, you can't find a good tree like the rest of us?!" this will get them out in the real world.

They probably like the warmth, but Jeff is right a blocked dryer vent is a HUGE fire hazard. Tom had to climb on our roof shortly after we moved in and clean lint out of ours...crazy. Good luck moving your squatters!

You don't really have a choice when they pick the dryer vent. No good can come of having a nest there.

For a very low price (under $2) you can get a different dryer vent thing that the birds can't get into. Make sure to do that after your birdies are evicted. I hope you don't have eggs or chicks in there though...
