Slow Progress

Apparently, Evan is not going to be one of those "easily potty-trained" children. We've been potty-training all week and progress has been slow. On Tuesday, it was obvious that we needed to make some changes. He was becoming less and less cooperative every time we asked him to sit on the potty. It was like he was channeling all of his toddler defiance straight onto that seat, jelly beans or no jelly beans.

I decided to get out the seat that fits on the toilet, and even though he had shied away from it earlier, this time he seemed intrigued. Somehow, we started calling it a "rocket ship" seat, and he was really in to that. The only problem with this seat is that it's harder to tell for sure if he actually peed. After breakfast, we put on his underwear and from then until right before nap time he was completely dry. Of course, right before putting him down for a nap and five minutes after having sat on the potty, he was wet. So, he's obviously still not getting the concept that he has stop what he's doing to let us know he has to pee. I'm not even sure yet that he's realizing he needs to pee before it happens.

We still have a long way to go, but luckily he's no longer fighting us every time we suggest he sit on the potty. Let's hope this get's easier!

It does get easier. I ask Nat every 20-30 minutes if she has to go...even though most the time she will tell me know. Maddie still just likes to sit for her M&M and then jumps off...it isn't the easiest thing in the world...hang in there!

I remember being potty trained. There was joy in "making bubbles".

Ok...maybe that was too much information.
