Rained-in

I am currently writing my 496th post, which means that the big 500 is coming up soon. I'm trying to decide how to commemorate this milestone. Although, I'm not really sure it's much of a feat since my posting has been a tad sparse in the recent months. So, I don't know, maybe there will be something cool that day, maybe not - we'll see.

We enjoyed a beautiful 5th of July today, which was nice, but it would have been better suited for the 4th. Our neighborhood had to cancel it's parade because of the rain. It's a really cool thing they do for the kids - a fire truck was going to lead the throng of marching children. But, it didn't happen. Luckily we hadn't given Evan too many details, so he wasn't too disappointed.

We were invited to our neighbor's cookout(in,) so we ventured out of our comfort zone and went over to socialize with a bunch of people we didn't know very well. That's not really our thing, we'd usually celebrate with our group of friends. But, we've been talking forever about how we needed to make more of an effort to get to know our neighbors, and this seemed like a big push from God, so we did it. It turned out to be a really good time. It would have been followed by a trip to the Fireworks at a private location they knew of, but that was rained-out too, so we played games instead.

Being at the cookout was interesting because the adults were seriously outnumbered. One couple had seven kids, two couples had four kids, one had three, and then there was us, holding it down with one. That was a first for us, most of our friends don't even have kids yet, let alone that many. Since the kids couldn't go outside, it was a madhouse, but Evan was in Heaven! All that to say, we're still planning on having a maximum of two - that's more than enough for us!

This article just caught my eye. As the holiday weekend comes to a close, I'll be giving it a read, because I'm seriously feeling the consequences of all that food.

Happy Independence Day!
