Is my son really almost 3?

We're deep in preschool territory. For starters, we're actually starting to talk about preschools. I swear that the other day I woke up thinking, "hey wait, Evan needs to go to preschool soon!" Well, soon is probably a relative term since this won't actually happen until next Fall, but still...It feels soon to me.

Evan will be a late kindergartener. He won't go until he's almost six. So, if we start preschool next year, he'll have 2 solid years to practice things like sitting still and following directions. Hmm...maybe we should have tried for 3 years! I'm not in the "all kids have to go to preschool" camp, but I think Evan is one that will definitely benefit from the classroom experience.

I was all set to start the daunting process of researching the local schools, but then a friend from church referred me to the one her kids attend and it sounds so great. It seems to have all of the things I consider high priority. Plus, I like the personal recommendation. I'll keep my options open, but right now it's top on the list!

On other fronts, I'm starting to plan Evan's 3rd birthday party. It's still 2 months away, but I know they'll be busy months, so I decided to get a head start. We've decided to keep it to just family again. I don't think we're quite ready for the "friend" party, maybe next year. But, since there aren't a lot of kids in our family, the challenge becomes how to make it about Evan and not just a reason for us to all hang out.

I've come up with an idea that I'm pretty excited about. Evan loves treasure hunts, so I'm going to send him on a family treasure hunt. Each family member will have a clue that sends him in search of the next Uncle, Aunt, etc...I might even make everyone wear pirate hats :-) Then maybe we'll have a few games that Evan can MC.

I guess it's time to start making some birthday memories. As Mom, I'm pretty much in charge of that, so I need to step it up!

We're doing preschool next fall as well, probably a montessori....what is the school you got the recommendation for?
