The master of all things lighting (and ceiling fan)

One of my favorite things about Spring and Fall is the ability to sleep with the windows open...and the feeling that I'm getting one over on "the man" by not having to turn on the heat or AC. It's a challenge each season to see how long we can hold out before turning them on, but I had to cave a little early this year because I had company over on an 80+ degree day.

We hope to recoup some of the outrageous amount of money we spent on heating our home in the winter, by using our AC as little as possible. Fans are pretty crucial to achieving this goal and our house had none, so we fixed that this weekend.

Jeff got a crash course in installing light fixtures when we bought our house and pretty much owns that now. We figured ceiling fans couldn't be that much harder and really, they aren't, unless you're us. We spent close to three hours on Friday night trying to install Evan's fan, and a good hour of that I was holding the fan above my head while Jeff fought with wires. We finally gave up around midnight when we were both too tired to lift our arms anymore.

We asked my Dad to come help, since this was obviously the job for two men, but before he got here today, Jeff realized we were going about it all very very wrong. Jeff was able to put the fan up in 20 minutes while I sat in a chair and watched. We felt like complete morons, but you live and learn right? After that, the second fan was a "breeze." Check out Evan's, it's super cute...kind of like a little spaceship...

You must be much further north than I am. Our fans are on almost year round. Which I love. I do not love the ac bill in July, August, and Sept, however.
