Toddlerific

Yesterday, we went to the library for story time. It did not go well. I don't know if it was because he still wasn't feeling well, or if he had just completely forgotten how to act right in a structured setting, but it was a disaster.

He was totally that kid. I got sympathetic looks from other moms. I got the obligatory comment that was meant to make me feel better: "He must be an explorer?" He was all over the place and did not want to follow directions or do what the other fifteen toddlers were so pleasantly doing. He got one time-out and then we eventually left before it was over.

He also perfected a new catchphrase, "me." I believe he uses it as both me and mine, but either way he screamed it every time one of the other kids got near the book. The last straw was when he went over to a mom and her child and tried to take a book right out of their hands. I marched him out immediately.

To be fair, the girl leading story time this session is extremely sub-par and not the least bit interesting, but the other kids didn't have a problem with it. I'm not sure what to do about next week. Do I give it another go and see if he does better? I hate the idea that the other moms will be thinking, "oh no, not them again - she's a real glutton for punishment," as soon as I walk in the room!

Maybe try making him set right there THEN,,and a tap on the rump wouldn't hurt either.. kids will learn to share its just a matter of time but marching him out he really got his way

i'd say try it again. putting an extra week in between won't remind him of how he should be. that's a cute photo of you guys!

Oh boy, this is the stuff I can't wait for!! I would say, try again. It worked with Peyton and his training class we were taking him too (I know, he's a dog, but still...). He was absolutely awful one night and the next week we took him, he was a little angel!

And about your below post, I just wanted to let you know that Jeff did a great job on those designs and Conrad was impressed : )

I would say try again and this time don't leave. Leaving him lets him know if he repeats that behavior he will do it again. But if he wasn't feeling well that different story. When I had my pre school class and babysat consistency was the key. I know you like consistency too.Just keep trying. You would never know now but when the boys were little they were pretty well behaved, ha!

I feel like all we do is time outs and saying no right now. We had to leave a restaurant the other day and then I had to do it again this weekend for a time out! Someone told me the other day that the terrible twos really are the terrible 16-24 months and it should be good. That the twos are when parents don't do anything about it...hmmm...hope we're doing the right thing I guess!

Ugh, I've had THAT kid before too (esp when they were 1 1/2!!) Not fun! I'd give it another try!
