Fun at the creek

Yesterday we took a trip to see my Mom and Grandma. My Grandma is almost 100 years old and she lives in a nursing home. She loves visitors, but I don't make it there nearly as often as I should. When we do visit, though, Evan is definitely the highlight. He keeps everyone entertained, and they love to give him all of the little trinkets and candy they've won playing bingo. And of course, he loves the non-stop attention, so it's a win for everyone involved.

Going to "Ga-Ga's" is the main event, though. Evan loves my Mom's house. What kid wouldn't, really? She's got a dog, cats, a creek, tons of toys, and due to her incessant garage-saleing, there's always something new to discover. Oh, and she lets him watch cartoons round-the-clock.

This was his first real experience with the creek and it was a big success. We brought buckets to catch tadpoles and "crawdads," and we even saw a few minnows. We looked for cool rocks and he splashed around some in the deep spots. Meanwhile I tried to channel my "country" roots as best I could and let a super huge crawdad graze my foot without screaming!

It's really great that we have a place like that to take him. I can't say I miss the country. I don't think I'd be happy living anywhere that wasn't within 5 minutes of a Target. But those are experiences I probably took for granted living where I did. We lived on a ton of acres that were beautifully wooded, with the creek, and lots of cool places to explore. But, I remember my Mom having to practically lock us out to get us to spend time in the great outdoors. I guess even then I knew I was a city girl. But I do have a few really great memories of playing in the creek, just like the ones he was making yesterday, and it's nice to pass that on!
