We went to the zoo...

...on what might have been the busiest day of the year. Jeff took Friday off and the gorgeous weather was screaming "zoo day," so we obliged. Between the Final Four visitors, Spring break, and the temperature, the zoo was definitely crowded. We decided to work our way backwards, and that turned out to be a great decision, because we avoided the crowds. There were only a couple of spots that felt congested, and with the breeze being so fabulous, we didn't mind! We ended the morning with a picnic lunch in the back of our car. It must have been fun, because Evan declared it to be the "best picnic ever."

The zoo is one of those milestone activities. Because we don't go a lot, each time we do, I can tell how much he has grown and matured since the last visit. He was all about the penguins this time, and since we went backwards, he had to wait all morning to see them. I think I heard the word penguin more in those 2 hours than in my entire life! I took several pictures with Evan that day, but the one below is the only one that turned out post-worthy. You know it's bad when you'll choose a picture of your giant belly over a head shot, but my face has become a tad swollen and entirely un-photogenic!

It was a great day, and we couldn't help but think how very different our next trip will be. We'll be a family of four!
