The good stuff

We've been back in the real world for almost a week now, so I've had plenty of time to reflect on vacation's greatness. Since it was warmer than our last visit we didn't have to spend as much time "sightseeing," so we spent a lot more of our time on the beach! In addition to the playhouse, we went to a really cool playground called Imagination Station, we walked the boardwalk in Grand Haven, and visited a nature center. The community we were staying in had access to a pier so we also took a walk along that. When indoors, we made the most of the flat screen and on demand cable, which are both rare in rentals, and we watched movies and played games. Jeff and I brought our Netflix selection: True Grit, The King's Speech, and The Fighter. And I managed to finish 3 whole books!

We did notice that because this cottage had all of the modern amenities like wi-fi and cable, we spent more time "plugged in" than on our last vacation. But I think we still managed to get in a lot of quality time as a family even with the presence of those comforts, so it was ok.

As I've already said, the beach there was great, but we did run into one problem. Apparently whenever there is an East wind the beach gets inhabited by horseflies. As was the case during the first day and a half we were there. I don't know if you've had any experience with horseflies but they're persistent devils, and they bite! We stuck it out though and were able to enjoy the beach despite the East wind and it's horseflies.

The beach had grassy, sandy dunes leading up to the water and just like last time I couldn't believe we weren't on the ocean. This is only our second trip to Lake Michigan, but I think we might be lifers. We even found ourselves talking about what it would take to have a vacation home there...maybe someday...Until then, we can always revel in our pictures. Speaking of, I've got a photo book to work on! And don't worry, I think these are the last of the vacation pictures I'll be posting.

Adorable pics of the kids on the beach. It sounds like it was a great trip. I'm jealous--I haven't been to a real beach in years.

Did you like "The King's Speech? We saw it a few days ago and loved it.

We LOVED The King's Speech! And I would highly recommend Lake Mi for it's beaches. If you find the right one, it will feel like you're on the ocean!
