Back to Soccer

Soccer season has started again for Evan and this year he really likes it because he has friends on his team and our friend, Lauren, is the coach. I've said it before, Jeff and I are not big on extracurricular sports. We have no idea what Evan will want to be involved in once he gets older, but for now our focus is on exposing him to things that build his confidence, social skills, sportsmanship, and let him run...a lot. We're not going to put him in every sport just to do it, and we don't even care if he ever gets "good" at soccer. We want him to be a good teammate and have fun and we want him to see us cheering him on while doing so. If you're wondering why soccer, the answer would be that neither one of us can stand baseball, plus there's way too much sitting around in t-ball for a kid like Evan.

I don't know what the future holds for Evan's "sport career." As soon as things get competitive, we've decided to leave all of those choices up to him. If he really wants to be in a sport every season and that makes him happy, we'll be supportive. But if he'd rather just be on the occasional team and take guitar lessons from Daddy on the side, we'll be good with that too :-)
